CTDP Objectives and Scope

Objectives

The main objective of the Computer Technology Documentation Project is to act as a repository and provide a mechanism for exchanging documentation and other technical resources. The purpose of these resources is to:

  1. Help users of this information learn technology they don't know more quickly.
  2. Help each other keep up with current and new technologies.
  3. Provide handy reference material.
  4. Provide tools and assistance in the production of material appropriate to this project.
  5. Provide updated and information that is as current as possible to users.
  6. Release or sell resources for public use.
  7. Provide documentation for free or minimal cost to those who cannot normally afford it.

This project is a mechanism which helps those involved in technical work share information. Part of the purpose of the CTDP is to provide a mechanism for:

  1. Sharing resources and exchanging ideas.
  2. Coordinating the development of resources.

The Scope of this Project

The definition of resources appropriate to this project include but may not be limited to:

  1. Technical documentation with subject matter describing and explaining how to use the particular technology.
  2. The relationship of one technology to another.
  3. Developments in industry affecting technology.
  4. Examples of technology such as programs that will serve as examples to aid learning.
  5. References to other resources that can be used for references or learning.
  6. Opinions about various technical issues and issues in industry affecting technology including advice.
  7. Development, documentation, or distribution of any tools that can be used to aid the mission and goals of this project.
  8. Evaluations and technical advice about products which are used for technical development especially including code development and debugging programs.
  9. Technical advice about the best way to achieve technical objectives or tasks.
  10. Decumentation relating to useful technical project management and technical methodologies.
  11. Documentation for purposes of aiding managing technical projects, and technical personnel.

Although this project may provide some means of educating non-technical workers and management who are involved with technical issues or in technical decision making, this project cannot provide guidance on how to handle specific internal organizational issues. Managers and personnel must be open to technical ideas and believe in the competence of their technical personnel in order to resolve technical issues appropriately. This project cannot cause managers or personnel to learn or listen to technical advice. It can only provide a means to learn if they are willing. Material beyond the scope of this project:

  1. Specific relationships between technical personnel and their peers or management.
  2. Technical "enlightenment" of co-workers or management whose decisions may affect technical operation of organizations (beyond normal documentation).
  3. Specific advice to technical personnel who must work with nontechnical management or personnel.
