About Us

The purpose of The Computer Technology Documentation Project is to provide a means of working together and sharing information. The Computer Technology Documentation Project exists to help its members and customers keep up with the fast pace of technology by:

  1. Sharing information contributed by experts in various technological fields.
  2. Keeping information as brief and as instructive as is possible to enable users to learn quicker.

A secondary purpose of this organization is to help make technical educational materials available to those who cannot afford it.

The Computer Technology Documentation Project is a not for profit organization. If it makes any money, that money will be donated to charitable organizations.

We are The Computer Technology Documentation Project (CTDP). We are a group of volunteers who are working together to document computer technologies in many different areas. We realize that people must work as a team in order to achieve. This especially includes technology. Without working together, one cannot possibly keep up with the pace of technology today. That is the reason for the Computer Technology Documentation Project. It is a means for us to share some of what we know with the world in order to help others to learn quicker. We produce computer documentation with the following goals in mind:

  1. Help users learn quickly.
  2. Generate well organized documentation for use as excellent reference material.
  3. Keep documentation current as technology changes.

Why we sell some documentation as a service

We may, from time to time, offer documentation for sale when members are interested in contributing documentation that is not free. This purchase is a service since any time there is an update within three years from the time of your purchase, you will receive the update at no cost.

Why your purchase is a service

Your purchase is a service since it is a commitment on our part to support our customer's needs in various areas of technical documentation. Normally when a customer buys a technical book, they use it for some time, then gradually it becomes obsolete and loses its worth. When a customer buys our services, they purchase the same kind of information as that in a book with a major difference. As technology changes, and our documentation is upgraded, you will receive free updates and therefore your purchase will not loose its worth. This is a new and revolutionary approach to information exchange, but we believe its time has come.

Why we sell our services

We sell our ongoing documentation as a service to customers to providing service to those that don't have time or resources enough to otherwise contribute to the project. We charge for this service as a means of compensating our various contributors in order to keep the project active. It is difficult to expect members to work hard and dedicate their time in the long term with no type of compensation.

Specifically, what do I get when I buy your documentation service?

You are granted use of the current documentation information which you have purchased. You do not own the documentation, but the right to use it and the right to have updated copies under the limitations of your purchase. You may use one copy at a time and loan it to others the same as you would use a book. You may make copies of the documentation for backup purposes for yourself. You may not make copies and distribute it to others.

How will this project continue?

As new technologies are made available, the Computer Technology Documentation Project will continue to produce new documentation services for sale, and therefore be able to compensate its contributors.

What about technologies that are completely dropped?

As some technologies become obsolete and no longer supported, such as an operating system like DOS, the Computer Technology Documentation Project, at its discretion, may make an appropriate substitution of new technical documentation for the old documentation at no cost. This would be solely at the discretion of the CTDP. For example, if a new operating system gradually replaces Linux, the documentation for the new Operating system may be substituted for that of the old. If there is no appropriate substitution, then that service line would be dropped ( if there is no demand) or updates would no longer be possible.

What is the policy of the time of service limit?

One purchase benefit includes:

You will receive, free of charge, updates on all documentation that you have purchased for up to three years or more as long as you keep the Computer Technology Documentation Project (CTDP) advised of your current e-mail address and the CTDP is active.

This means that after three years from the time of your purchase, the CTDP is no longer responsible for keeping your documentation updated. However, at its discretion, the CTDP may continue to give free documentation updates. Also if this project is cancelled due to lack of interest or any other reason, we would of course no longer be able to provide support. We believe this is fair since the current value of the documentation at its present state more than compensates our customers for the amount of the low purchase price. It is our belief that enough interest will continue into the forseeable future to more than adequately maintain this project.
