IPX stands for Internetwork Packet Exchange. IPX is used by Novell Netware's operating system and network. IPX operates at the transport and network layers of the OSI network model. IPX provides for network addressing and routing. IPX provides fast, unreliable, communication with network nodes using a connection less datagram service.
IPX addressing is based on logical networks which are given a 32 bit address in value of 1 through 24774967294 or 0xFFFFFFFE in hexadecimal. IPX uses the network card Media Access Control (MAC) address for the node address of the networked device. The complete address is the logical network address with the MAC address of the node added to it.
